For the first summer in a long time, I have not had the urge to pack my bags and leave London. The weather has been so gloriously hot and sunny that there really is no need to go anywhere…except ‘home’ to see the rest of my family…which is where I am right now…
Before leaving London, Mom put in her request of things to bring back, and this time it is not tea from Harrod’s or HP Fruity sauce, or the ever increasingly difficult to find horseradish CREAM (not sauce…I think? Mom?) from M&S. No, this trip it is Splenda minis. Really? Even though it is possible to get packets and packages of Splenda, mom (and sis apparently) prefer the minis. Right. Okay.
Mom knows how much I love shopping so even knew to direct me to the specific aisle at the local Tesco’s. Whew!!! Splenda, check. Boot’s No. 7 sun cream, check. Rescue Remedy melting tabs, check. Guess I can clear customs.
I’m going to TRY and keep it short and sweet (or splenda-id?) over the next few weeks while I now try to explain to C1 and C2 ‘what it’s like’. But at the moment, i can’t explain ANYTHING, let alone think. We have already been up since 4:30am and while C1 reminded me that it is REALLY 9:30 am in London, I REALLY don’t care!!! I REALLY want to get back to sleep!!!
Because I am jet lagged. It has nothing to do with the fact that Sis and I managed to polish off a bottle of Pinot last night – whoops! Where’d it go? Sis pours LARGE glasses of wine – that’s my girl! When even I commented upon how much wine she poured, Sis defended herself with ‘I can’t see the bottom of the glass!’ Yeah, I usually can’t either. Pour away.
How cute is her Alessiesque bottle top?But I can’t figure out if it looks like a little green man as desperate to get into that bottle of wine as I was after 8 hours flying with children not sleeping, or the Jolly Green Giant giving Sis the finger for not buying another bottle.
I let Sis sleep in but as it is lunch time in London, we are hungry and I am in desperate need of a Sunday morning bagel and coffee. I grab her keys and realize I sort of forgot how to drive in this country. At 7:30am on a Sunday, there aren’t many cars on the road…but thankfully a STOP sign reminds me to move over to the right…just a bit…of course.
At least I have not forgotten how to speak ‘deli’ and after I work out where the line (queue) ends, I order a duzen baguls – 4 salted, 4 everything, 2 plain and 2 cinnamon raisin. Just look at how many bagels there are to choose from!
While taking a picture, a cheeky customer commented that I really should wait until I had the real thing as it would surely taste better than the picture! I LOVE salt bagels.
Back on the right side of the road, and now back at Sis’ and we (I) am feasting on bagels with cream cheese, orange juice and coffee…and more coffee…and probably some more in a minute. The cousins are up, swimsuits are found and they are getting ready to jump in the pool in the backyard…it’s good to be back.
Bottle of Pinot Noir or anything else in the house.
Drink with sister, brother or best friend on first night of family holiday (vacation).
Tell silly or sad stories and enjoy.
Repeat. Probably every night of holiday (vacation).
